Katsuyuki Kiyomiya's team hammered previously unbeaten Toshiba Brave Lupus to make it 19 points from a possible 20. Toyota Verblitz head the Top League standings following the completion of the first weekend of action. Verblitz were the only side to pick a bonus point for scoring three more tries than their opponents. Japan beat Canada 26-22 on Saturday at BC Place in a thrilling encounter against their oldest international rivals, despite being handed just their third red card in their 84-year test match history. Yoshiya Hosoda saw red in the 54th minute but tries by Takeshi Kizu and Kotaro Matsushima and a perfect kicking display from Yu Tamura, who landed four penalties and two conversions, saw the Brave Blossoms home.
